Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Columbus

Columbus entered their tilt with Fremont on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Tigers. That's more bragging rights for the Discoverers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Columbus got a great performance from Brayden Cooney as he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Holys, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Columbus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Camden Gustafson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Columbus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2025.

The victory got Columbus back to even at 6-6. As for Fremont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Looking ahead, Columbus is taking a road trip to challenge Lincoln East at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Discoverers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for Fremont, they have already played their next contest, an 11-4 defeat against Norfolk on the 14th.
