Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Orofino

Orofino won the last time they faced Bonners Ferry and things went their way on Saturday too. The Maniacs walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Badgers. The win was familiar territory for the Maniacs, who have now won three contests in a row.

Tyler Zumpe tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaeger Tondevold, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Orofino is undefeated when Tondevold posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Blake Barlow was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Orofino's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bonners Ferry, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orofino will venture away from home to face off against Grangeville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maniacs will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches. As for Bonners Ferry, they will head out to challenge North Central at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
