Softball Game Preview: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Francis Parker Lancers

The Mission Bay Buccaneers will head out to challenge the Francis Parker Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mission Bay has five straight victories, Francis Parker has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mission Bay's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Morse 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buccaneers have posted since April 30, 2024.

Abby Nelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Nelson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evie Horton, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Francis Parker came up short against Escondido Charter on Thursday, falling 12-1.

Mission Bay pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Francis Parker, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
