Softball Recap: Clovis North Finds Playoff Glory Versus Stockdale

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Clovis North walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Stockdale Mustangs with a sharp 10-3 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jocelynn Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 23 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Clovis North got a massive performance out of Jaelyn Clark, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Clark has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brynn Gentry, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Clovis North always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Clovis North is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Stockdale, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-7.

Looking ahead, Clovis North will take on Buchanan at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Broncos 2.6, the Bears 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Stockdale does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
