Softball Game Preview: Northview Vikings vs. West Covina Bulldogs

Northview is a perfect 9-0 against West Covina since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Northview will welcome West Covina at 3:30 p.m. Northview will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

While Northview's victory against South El Monte wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Northview skirted past South El Monte 10-9.

Mila Elizalde was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Beatriz Diaz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Northview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South El Monte only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, West Covina fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Monrovia on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 14-13.

Liliana Lopez led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Melina Alvarado was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-6.

Northview's win bumped their record up to 12-5-1. As for West Covina, they now have a losing record of 6-7-1.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .422. However, it's not like West Covina struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Northview took their victory against West Covina when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-2. Will Northview repeat their success, or does West Covina has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
