Softball Recap: Purchase Line Comes Up Short

Purchase Line extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 7-6 in the process. They came up short against the Curwensville Golden Tide, falling 9-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Red Dragons were not able to get on the board.

Rylee Mahaffey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Curwensville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5. Considering they have won four matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Curwensville's side, Addison Siple was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Siple was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Natalie Wischuck and Kylah Wos did most of the damage at the plate: Wischuck went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Wos went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Wos has posted since back in March. Ava Hainsey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Purchase Line will venture away from home to square off against Marion Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Curwensville, they will head out to face off against Moshannon Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
