Baseball Game Preview: Mattamuskeet Lakers vs. Hobgood Charter Raiders

For the second straight game, Mattamuskeet will face off against Hobgood Charter. The Lakers will venture away from home to challenge the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mattamuskeet has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mattamuskeet's last matchup with Hobgood Charter could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. The Lakers came up short against the Raiders, falling 18-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Lakers in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost three in a row.

For Hobgood Charter's part, ETHAN GARNER made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. GARNER has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Hobgood Charter's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, CONNER ROBERSON was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. CARLOS MARTINEZ was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Hobgood Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Hobgood Charter is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Mattamuskeet, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
