Baseball Game Preview: Lake Norman Wildcats vs. Sun Valley Spartans

The Lake Norman Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Sun Valley Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lake Norman has three straight wins, Sun Valley has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Lake Norman's victory against A.L. Brown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lake Norman had just enough and edged out A.L. Brown 2-1 on Friday.

Morgan McGuire looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He also put up a walk, which was his first of the season.

At the plate, Andres Acurero was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley faced Cuthbertson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Sun Valley fell 10-7 to Cuthbertson.

Coen DeCarlo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Dave Aguilar, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Lake Norman pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sun Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
