Softball Recap: Hiawatha Comes Up Short

Hiawatha extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Perry-Lecompton Kaws. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Kenzie Nelson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Perry-Lecompton, they pushed their record up to 6-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Perry-Lecompton's side, Olivia Hart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. Hart has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Macie Corcoran was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Autumn Flory also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hiawatha beat Perry-Lecompton by a score of 10-6 later that day.
