Basketball Recap: Alexander Comes Up Short

Alexander was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Buckeyes are ranked 121st).

It was another big night for Alec Thompson, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 26 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals for Nelsonville-York. The dominant performance gave Thompson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Briant Call, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Alexander's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Nelsonville-York, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Alexander didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-44 defeat against Southeastern on the 14th. Nelsonville-York has also already played their next game, a 61-41 victory against Trimble on the 14th.
