Basketball Recap: Jaxon Brunaugh Key Part of a Team Effort in Panthers Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carlyle, Jersey was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They snuck past the Staunton Bulldogs with a 54-49 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 112th).

Jersey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaxon Brunaugh, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. That's the most rebounds Brunaugh has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was John Paul Vogel, who went 5 of 6 en route to 10 points and five rebounds.

Jersey's record is now 5-12. As for Staunton, they moved to 12-3 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jersey will challenge Metro-East Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Staunton, they will face off against North Mac at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
