Baseball Recap: The Pilgrim Academy Victorious

With a playoff win on the line, The Pilgrim Academy rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Atlantic Christian Cougars. The game was the first time the Pioneers have beaten the Cougars on their field since April 26, 2024.

Freedy Conley made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because The Pilgrim Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-10 otherwise. Conley was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Johnny Monroe, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of The Pilgrim Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't).

The Pilgrim Academy's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Atlantic Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.

Looking ahead, The Pilgrim Academy will face off against Gloucester County Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Conquerors will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. Atlantic Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
