The Tulia Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the San Jacinto Christian Academy Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tulia is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Tulia lost 10-1 to Bushland on Friday.
Jarvis Pestrana was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, San Jacinto Christian Academy came into Monday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Kress on Monday as San Jacinto Christian Academy made off with a 13-2 win. Considering the Patriots have won eight contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jett Randolph was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had over his last nine matchups.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jon Cruz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. San Jacinto Christian Academy is undefeated when Cruz posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ben Mitchell, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Tulia's loss dropped their record down to 10-5-1. As for San Jacinto Christian Academy, their record now sits at 10-6.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tulia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like San Jacinto Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tulia might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from San Jacinto Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Can Tulia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
