Basketball Recap: Triton Central Comes Up Short

Triton Central lost against Roncalli back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Triton Central Tigers took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roncalli Royals. The matchup marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Triton Central lost, don't look at Eli Sego. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 15 on his way to 17 points and five assists. Silas Blair was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Sego wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Triton Central was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roncalli only racked up four assists.

Roncalli's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Will Hegwood, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points. Those 14 points gave Hegwood a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Schmaltz, who posted 11 points.

Triton Central's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Roncalli, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Triton Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Waldron at 8:00 p.m. on January 10th. Waldron knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Triton Central likes a good challenge. As for Roncalli, they will venture away from home to take on Franklin Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th.
