Basketball Recap: Derriance Pitts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rising Sun over South Decatur

Rising Sun lost against South Decatur back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rising Sun Shiners took a 61-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Decatur Cougars. The Shiners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rising Sun's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derriance Pitts, who posted ten points. Those ten points gave Pitts a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Williams, who put up 17 points.

Drake Scaggs continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for South Decatur, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grady Scudder, who had nine points.

Rising Sun's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for South Decatur, their record is now 5-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rising Sun will take on Southwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southwestern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season. As for South Decatur, they will square off against Waldron at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Lucas Shaw and Scaggs.
