Softball Recap: Ash Fork/Seligman Gets the Win

Ash Fork/Seligman won the last time they faced St. Michael and things went their way on Saturday too. The Spartans walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Cardinals. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Andrea Vazquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aspen Bond, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Crystal Nixon was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

Ash Fork/Seligman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Ash Fork/Seligman back to even at 5-5. As for St. Michael, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Ash Fork/Seligman will host Mayer at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.25 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Michael, they will take on Greyhills Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
