Basketball Recap: Bishop O'Connell Comes Up Short

If Bishop O'Connell was feeling good fresh off their 71-3 takedown of Freedom on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Knights were beaten by the NC GBB Academy National Eagles 73-37 on Sunday.

Bishop O'Connell's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carly Sweazie, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Gaskins, who had ten points.

Amayah Barnes was her usual excellent self, shooting 62% from the field to rack up 26 points along with seven rebounds and six steals for NC GBB Academy National. That makes it three consecutive games in which Barnes has scored at least a third of the Eagles' points. Tia Bryant was another key player, going 6-for-12 on her way to 15 points.

Bishop O'Connell's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for NC GBB Academy National, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.

Coming up, Bishop O'Connell will host The Academy of the Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup will give the Knights their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for NC GBB Academy National, they will take on Southeastern Prep Academy National in a tournament on Saturday.
