Baseball Game Preview: Sand Creek Aggies vs. Adrian Maples

Sand Creek hasn't had much luck against Adrian recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Aggies are taking a road trip to challenge the Maples at 9:00 a.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Sand Creek's victory against Lenawee Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aggies skirted past the Cougars 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Aggies in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.

Ivan Wilkinson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Sand Creek: the team is 8-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Reid Hulett was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Andon Sutherland, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Adrian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Pinckney 3-2.

The team relied heavily on Tyler Bruggeman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Adrian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. As for Sand Creek, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Sand Creek couldn't quite get it done against Adrian in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as they fell 7-2. Can the Aggies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
