Basketball Recap: Croatan Skates Past Dixon with Ease

Croatan won the last time they faced Dixon and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Croatan Cougars breezed by the Dixon Bulldogs to the tune of 54-21. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 22 points or more this season.

Leading Croatan to victory were Layla Shearin and Landry Clifton. Shearin went 5 of 10 on her way to 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Clifton posted eight points and nine boards. Shearin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Neely McMannen was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Croatan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Alivia Nokes and Brianna Weiss certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Nokes earned six points and six steals, while Weiss put up five points. Braelyn Swaney also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first board of the season.

The win was the sixth in a row for Croatan, bringing their record for this year to 12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points over those games. As for Dixon, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-13.

Croatan has already played their next contest, a 40-25 victory against White Oak on the 7th. As for Dixon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 57-27 loss against Swansboro on the 7th.
