Recap: Moody Blue Devils vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets
The Moody Blue Devils are still undefeated this season after their match against the Oxford Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, but the Oxford Yellow Jackets came as close as anyone has to beating them. Moody narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Oxford 42-39. Given Moody's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Oxford is ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Xaionna Whitfield. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Whitfield scored a full 59% of Oxford's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shay Montgomery, who scored 8 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Moody's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Oxford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moody will take on Etowah at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Etowah is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Oxford is on the road again on Thursday and play against Handley at 5:30 p.m. on November 30th.
