Softball Game Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. Starkville Yellowjackets

Germantown is a perfect 3-0 against Starkville since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mavericks will host the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Germantown beat Pisgah 7-4. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won eight in a row.

Mackenzie Donnell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Julia Glasgow was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Lindley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Starkville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-2 to Tupelo.

Starkville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aly Foote, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Germantown's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Starkville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

Starkville's pitching crew better be locked in on Friday. Germantown hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Starkville, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Germantown in the park?

Germantown took their victory against Starkville in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-2 score. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
