Baseball Game Preview: Terra Nova Tigers vs. Cupertino Pioneers

The Terra Nova Tigers will head out to challenge the Cupertino Pioneers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Terra Nova is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Terra Nova is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 12-1 margin over Rancho San Juan on Wednesday. The Tigers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024.

Aiden James and Joey Donati made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, James didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Donati pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. James has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, James went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Donati scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. That double was James' first of the season.

In other batting news, Luke Ornelas and Wesley McDougal did most of the damage at the plate: Ornelas went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while McDougal scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those four RBI gave Ornelas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evan Wilson, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-5.

Terra Nova kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Cupertino sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Fremont on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pioneers.

Terra Nova's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cupertino, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.
