Basketball Recap: Macon County Piles Up the Points Against Schley County

Macon County entered their tilt with Schley County on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They breezed by the Schley County Wildcats to the tune of 73-37. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Jhai'Marrion Whitehead III had a dynamite game for Macon County, going 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tarigee Collier, who posted ten points and three steals.

Macon County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 31 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Schley County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amir Nelson put up 11 points. Another player making a difference was Julian Salazar, who had seven points.

Macon County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.0 points per game. As for Schley County, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Macon County will welcome Taylor County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Taylor County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season. As for Schley County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-43 win against Furlow Charter School on the 4th.
