Football Recap: Angleton Piles Up the Points Against Porter

Angleton was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They blew past the Porter Spartans 56-10. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Spartans are ranked 417th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Angleton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Duron, who threw for 152 yards and one TD on only 13 passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. A healthy portion of Duron's aerial production (104 yards to be exact) went to Wesley Jackson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Angleton proved: they limited Porter to a paltry 1.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Wallace Thornley for the heroic effort on defense: he. Angleton didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.4.

Angleton's defense didn't let Stone Singletary, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Kawarren Scott was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four himself. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 5.5 sacks on the season. Another thorn in Porter's side was Thornley, who forced one fumble and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

The win keeps Angleton at an undefeated 4-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 64.5 points this season. As for Porter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
