Basketball Recap: Brooklynn Tinnell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Hardy over Elkins

If East Hardy was feeling good fresh off their 46-19 takedown of Robert C. Byrd on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The East Hardy Cougars took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elkins Tigers on Saturday. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in December of 2022.

East Hardy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklynn Tinnell, who went 7 of 17 en route to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. Tinnell has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Miller, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

East Hardy's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Elkins, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Hardy will take on Tucker County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tucker County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season. As for Elkins, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Robert C. Byrd at 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Elkins is facing Robert C. Byrd at the right time seeing as Robert C. Byrd is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
