Football Game Preview: Lamar Raiders vs. Brookhaven Academy Cougars

The Lamar Raiders will challenge the Brookhaven Academy Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Lamar is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Cathedral 40-6. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 21 points or more this season.

A big part of Lamar's victory came down to the chemistry between Sullivan Reed and his top target Walker Mims. Reed threw for 217 yards and four TDs on only 19 passes while Mims picked up 111 receiving yards and three scores. Those four passing touchdowns gave Reed a new career-high.

Lamar's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Luke Brady with two sacks.

Meanwhile, Brookhaven Academy hadn't done well against Silliman Institute recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Wildcats, posting a 42-14 win. The Cougars not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 29th (when they won 53-7).

Lamar better keep an eye on Walt Smith. He was instrumental in Brookhaven Academy's win, rushing for 103 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Brookhaven Academy proved: they limited Silliman Institute to a paltry two yards per carry. The Cougars didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.8.

The victory made it two in a row for Brookhaven Academy and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.5 points over those games. As for Lamar, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
