Softball Game Preview: Julian Eagles vs. Borrego Springs Rams

The Julian Eagles will face off against the Borrego Springs Rams at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Julian played against Vincent Memorial on Monday and won via forfeit.

Julian let Lily Betts and Avalina Magante-Ortiz run wild. Betts got on base in all five of her plate appearances with nine stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI, while Magante-Ortiz went 4-for-5 with one home run, two triples, and two stolen bases. Those nine stolen bases gave Betts a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiya Regalado, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

On Friday, Borrego Springs didn't have quite enough to beat Vincent Memorial and fell 16-14.

Vanessa (Dulce) Morales made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Audrina Gonzalez was another key player, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Borrego Springs dropped their record down to 6-11 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Julian, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.

Borrego Springs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Julian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Borrego Springs, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Julian's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.

Julian took their win against Borrego Springs when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 17-11 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
