Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Snags Seventh Win in Last Nine Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Augustine had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Del Norte Nighthawks as they made off with an 8-2 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-4 back in April.

Ryan Popkins tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Shane Miranda was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kapono Nakanelua, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

St. Augustine is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Del Norte, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-12.

Coming up, St. Augustine will challenge Granite Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight. Del Norte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
