Softball Game Preview: Bath County Wildcats vs. Russell Red Devils

The Bath County Wildcats will challenge the Russell Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Bath County's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Russell has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Bath County will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Nicholas County on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bluejackets with a sharp 17-2 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Russell's offense. They lost 10-0 to Greenup County on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Devils have suffered against the Musketeers since April 1, 2022.

Bath County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Russell, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.

Bath County came up short against Russell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
