Baseball Recap: Western Triumphs

Western won the last time they faced Pinecrest Academy Cadence and things went their way on Monday too. The Warriors walked away with a 4-0 win over the Cougars. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Edwin Moreno was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Western is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Moreno was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing seven bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those seven stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Eddie Reveles was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Edgar Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Western always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Western's record now sits at 8-6. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Coming up, Western will host Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they will head out on the road to take on Lake Mead Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
