Baseball Game Preview: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. Aspire Langston Hughes Academy Titans

For the second straight game, Venture Academy will face off against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Venture Academy has ten straight victories, Aspire Langston Hughes Academy has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Venture Academy got the win against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy by a conclusive 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Roman Stewart made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Dillon Gouker and Xavier Perez did most of the damage at the plate: Gouker scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Perez scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Perez has posted since back in April of 2024. Raymond Gusman also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Venture Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Venture Academy pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Aspire Langston Hughes Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
