Basketball Recap: Cherokee Trail Comes Up Short

Cherokee Trail suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the Cherry Creek Bruins, falling 66-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered against the Bruins since March 4, 2021.

Despite the loss, Cherokee Trail saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jordan Mitchell posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Vince Guthrie, who put up seven points and eight rebounds.

It was another big night for Jeremiah Hammond, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 20 points for Cherry Creek. The team also got some help courtesy of Darian Proctor, who scored ten points.

Cherokee Trail has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Cherry Creek, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.

Cherokee Trail will welcome Eaglecrest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eaglecrest will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Cherokee Trail surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cherry Creek, they will venture away from home to take on Mullen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cherry Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
