Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Ninety Six's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Ninety Six and Mid-Carolina meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Wildcats blew past the Rebels 12-1. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Jocelyn Coleman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other pitching news, Meghan Kimberling looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, McKendree Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 13 contests. Another player making a difference was Katie Fortner, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Ninety Six is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mid-Carolina, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ninety Six will welcome Pelion at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mid-Carolina, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chester at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
