Baseball Game Preview: South Warren Spartans vs. Daviess County Panthers

The South Warren Spartans will head out to challenge the Daviess County Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. South Warren's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Daviess County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

South Warren's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Adair County hitters got past them. The Spartans took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians on Friday. It was the first time this season that the Spartans let down their fans at home.

Meanwhile, Daviess County waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since March 18, 2024.

Daviess County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Brubaker, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Brubaker has posted since back in March. Sean Page also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Daviess County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Warren, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.

South Warren was able to grind out a solid win over Daviess County in their previous meeting back in March, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
