Basketball Recap: Billings Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Gabe Jones and Sawyer Middendorf

On Friday, the Billings Christian Warriors might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the St. Labre Indian Catholic Braves an easy 87-64 victory. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Braves 21-15 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Billings Christian had strong showings from Sawyer Middendorf, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks, and Gabe Jones, who went 11 of 22 on his way to 28 points and four steals. Middendorf is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Billings Christian and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for St. Labre Indian Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Billings Christian will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on White Sulphur Springs at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. After both having extra time off, St. Labre Indian Catholic and Roundup will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
