Baseball Recap: Laurel Victorious

Laurel's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They blew past the Wise Pumas 8-2. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Pumas: they've now won four in a row.

CJ DeTurris made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 15 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). DeTurris was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Josh LaClair was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Aiden Lee was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Laurel's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Wise, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Laurel is set to face off against their familiar foe Bladensburg on Friday. Meanwhile, Wise will challenge rival Flowers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
