Baseball Recap: Lakeside Comes Up Short

Lakeside extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 6-9. They came up short against the Ballard Beavers, falling 11-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Ballard, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Ballard's part, Bennett Klein was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Klein was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wes Manger was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Ballard is 3-1 when Manger posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Miles Soja was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Lakeside will head out to face off against Ingraham at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ballard, they will host Auburn Riverside at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Ravens' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Beavers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
