MaxPreps host Myckena Guerrero breaks down movement in the Top 25, including a new No. 1.

It didn't take long for the shuffling to begin in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National High School Volleyball Rankings.

For starters, Mother McAuley, which won the 2016 MaxPreps national championship, displayed its potent defense in winning its first two matches. All total, Mother McAuley blocked 23 shots and had more than 100 digs in five sets. The wins give Mother 34-straight victories over two seasons.

Not to be overlooked, Novi, which finished No. 2 last season behind Mother McAuley, won its first six matches to open the season to run its win streak to 48. Novi jumped 13 spots this week to No. 13.

The Wildcats last lost on Sept. 10 when they fell to Clarkston (Mich.), 2-1. Only three times during the 48-match win streak has an opponent won a set. Novi has yet to lose a set this season.

Perhaps bigger news was the preseason poll's top two teams No. 1 Archbishop Mitty and No. 2 Minooka (Ill.), losing during opening-day tournaments. Each team finished 4-1.

St. Ignatius started the season unranked, but won the Milpitas Spikefest by running the table in 10-straight sets.

As a result, Mitty and Minooka dropped to Nos. 9 and 10, respectively, opening the door for Marymount to grab the top spot. Marymount opens the season on Tuesday with a big test against No. 3 Santa Margarita .

Four teams fell from the rankings.

In addition to Novi, new to the Top 25 this week are St. Ignatius, Baylor and Marist.

7. (8) Bishop Moore (Orlando, Fla.), 1-0

8. (11) Fayetteville (Ark.), 2-0
