Baseball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Immaculate Mustangs

The Southington Blue Knights will square off against the Immaculate Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Southington's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Immaculate has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Southington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Platt, who was ranked 18th at the time (Southington was ranked 16th). The Blue Knights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Panthers on Friday.

Southington got a great performance from Gabe Hinkson as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Hinkson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mark Zigmont, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Immaculate fell victim to Brookfield and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Bobcats. The game marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Southington's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Immaculate, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Immaculate's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Southington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game.
