Basketball Recap: Gerri Lewis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pine Forest over Fort Walton Beach

After flying high against Woodland last Tuesday, Pine Forest came back down to earth. The Eagles took a 49-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Walton Beach Vikings on Wednesday. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Pine Forest lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gerri Lewis, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 13 points and five boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 56% in the last four games she's played. Za'Khiya Shaw-Rease was another key player, putting up nine points and four blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fort Walton Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aniyah Boyd, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 19 points in addition to eight assists and six steals. Those six steals gave Boyd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis Smith, who posted ten points along with six blocks and four steals.

Pine Forest's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Fort Walton Beach, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Pine Forest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-57 loss against Choctawhatchee on the 6th. As for Fort Walton Beach, they have also already played their next contest, a 71-11 win against Rutherford on the 5th.
