Basketball Game Preview: Portal Panthers vs. Metter Tigers

Portal and Metter are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Portal Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Metter Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Portal is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Jenkins County on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Portal was outmatched by Jenkins County and fell 70-43. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-19.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 74 points the game before, Metter was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They took a blow against McIntosh County Academy, falling 66-30. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 77th).

Metter's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Portal, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.

Portal didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Metter in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 55-50 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portal since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
