Softball Recap: Mercy Beats Jefferson for Their Third Straight Victory

Mercy and Jefferson faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Monday. The Bears' pitchers stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 25-0 shutout. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.

Mercy got a massive performance out of Elena Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave Gonzalez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aveline Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base.

Mercy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .789. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win (which was Mercy's third in a row) raised their record to 12-12. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Looking ahead, Mercy will square off against South San Francisco at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
