Softball Game Preview: Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors vs. Decatur Red Raiders

The Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors will face off against the Decatur Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Whitesburg Christian Academy is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Madison Academy just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 11-0 to the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Decatur came up short against Mae Jemison on Monday, falling 16-10. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mallie Hudson put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Josey Hendrix was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, four runs, and two doubles while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Lizzie Kresch was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Even though they lost, Decatur lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Decatur's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Whitesburg Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.

Whitesburg Christian Academy took their victory against Decatur in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 11-2. Does Whitesburg Christian Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Decatur turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
