Basketball Recap: McCracken County Comes Up Short

McCracken County lost against Owensboro Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The McCracken County Mustangs took a hard 51-35 fall against the Owensboro Catholic Aces. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Aces are ranked 19th).

Owensboro Catholic found their leader in freshman Sophia Newby, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. With that strong performance, Newby is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Randolph, who posted 11 points along with eight boards and four steals.

McCracken County's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Owensboro Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

The future could be bright for both McCracken County and Owensboro Catholic: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. McCracken County will try to hand Livingston Central their fourth-straight loss when the two meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Owensboro Catholic will look to extend Bowling Green's three-game losing streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
