Football Game Preview: Canyon Hills Rattlers vs. Kearny Komets + How To Watch

Canyon Hills is 0-3 against Kearny since November of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Rattlers will head out on the road to face off against the Komets at 7:00 p.m. Kearny took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Canyon Hills, who comes in off a win.

Canyon Hills was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Clairemont on Friday. The Rattlers took their contest with ease, bagging a 28-0 victory over the Chieftains.

Makahi Fields-Cook continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 151 yards and one score on only 12 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 121 rushing yards. Daniel Westhafer was in the mix as well, providing Canyon Hills with one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Kearny fought the good fight in their overtime game against Morse on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 20-14 to the Tigers. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Komets who fell 2-0 when the teams previously met back in September of 2019.

Canyon Hills will have to keep a close watch on Jaylen Hill and Makai Nguyen, a pair of players who had a big impact on Kearny's prior game. Hill rushed for 122 yards on only 14 carries, while Nguyen rushed for 91 yards and one TD. Hill's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Kearny's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Canyon Hills, the win also got them back to even at 3-3.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Canyon Hills has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kearny struggles in that department as they've been averaging 160.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Canyon Hills lost to Kearny on the road by a decisive 56-41 margin in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Rattlers, Brodie Stump (who threw for 482 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 36 yards) won't be suiting up this time.
