Softball Recap: O'connor's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

O'Connor dropped their record down to 17-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 7-0 to the Pinnacle Pioneers. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Eagles haven't been shut out since back in March.

As for Pinnacle, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-6-1. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Pinnacle's part, not much got past Kodi Crabtree, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep O'Connor off the board. Crabtree has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pinnacle got a massive performance out of Torynn Slaughter, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Bri Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Looking ahead, O'Connor will venture away from home to square off against Red Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mountain Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pinnacle, they are taking a road trip to take on Mountain Ridge at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mountain Lions have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
