Football Recap: Montour Spartans vs. Mars Fightin' Planets
Despite a strong season so far, Montour has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mars Fightin' Planets. Despite 64 more yards than the Fightin' Planets, the Spartans couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Montour lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caden Halajcio, who rushed for 167 yards while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave Halajcio a new career-high in rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dom Baron, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even though they lost, Montour was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Eric Kasperowicz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mars, rushing for 213 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Kasperowicz continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Zach Dentel made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Montour's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Mars, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-5.
Montour does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mars, they will take on McKeesport at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mars is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
