Baseball Game Preview: Foothill Cougars vs. Shasta Wolves

For the second straight game, Foothill will face off against Shasta. Foothill will be playing in front of their home fans against Shasta at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Foothill 2.4, Shasta 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Foothill's offense. They came up short against Shasta on Tuesday, falling 6-0. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For Shasta's part, Landon Kidd looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Kidd a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Owen Boesiger was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Ty Jones was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Shasta is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Foothill's loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Foothill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Shasta struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
