Baseball Recap: Santa Maria Triumphs

Santa Maria is still undefeated this season after their contest against Riverdale on Saturday, but Riverdale came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Santa Maria Saints had just enough and edged out the Riverdale Cowboys 8-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-3 on Saturday.

Mateo Peinado and Julius Medina were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Peinado tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Medina tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Peinado scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Medina scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Medina posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dominic Martin, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Andrew Rice was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Santa Maria's record now sits at 4-0. As for Riverdale, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Santa Maria didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-4 win against Valley Christian Academy on the 10th. As for Riverdale, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 16-1 victory against Alpaugh on the 10th.
