Baseball Game Preview: Lucas Cubs vs. Mapleton Mounties

The Lucas Cubs will take on the Mapleton Mounties at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lucas has three straight victories, Mapleton has 16 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Lucas beats Mapleton with five runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cubs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Crestline on Tuesday.

Brady Anschutz was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Lucas is undefeated when Anschutz posts one or more home runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zell Finley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Mapleton had taken Western Reserve down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Mounties came up short against the Roughriders, falling 17-3.

Mapleton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Dennison, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Lucas' victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Mapleton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.

Lucas might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Mapleton in their previous matchup back in April of 2017. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
